The Rocketship Education program is a network of elementary charter schools that serve needy students in areas where is there is limited access to excellent schools. The program believes that transformative schools play a huge role in inspiring the community and engaging parents. During the inaugural decade of its performance, the program learned a few important lessons. First, they made headlines as being the founders of personalized learning, and until now they have strong avocations for purposeful integration of technology into the student learning.
Personalized learning to them is not just about the tech but a deeper understanding of the unique interest and needs of the students and family members. They are now more inclined to elementary education since they are trying to create a parallel system that will help transform the public school system. The idea behind the creation of the program was to help families build a political attention by ensuring that public school systems thrive but at the same time hold leaders accountable. By scaling up to the problems faced by the public education system, Rocketship education had to focus more on catalyzing movements that allow parents to play a part in the decision-making process.
For a long period, there has been a lot of talk around segregation and charter schools. It isn’t a big deal for children from marginalized communities pick on schools that they think are in line with their children best interest. However, the good thing about Rocketship education is that it doesn’t segregate kids depending on the creed, class, race, and ethnicity. That’s why the education system features a teaching system that ensures students experience the benefits that come from teacher’s diversity. It hasn’t been obvious coming up with a system that includes kids with disabilities, and just like most schools, the Rocketship education focused more on compliance.
For them, they needed to come up with a schooling system that helps all students develop and discover their potential regardless of their disability. That’s why they developed a flex model approach whose idea was to create an open and dynamic learning approach that is facilitated by teachers and school leaders. Some schools did well with the system, but for others, it was difficult to control quality.
